How Mercari fees actually work

Mercari used to charge a 10% selling fee plus a separate ~2.9% + $0.30 payment processing fee, similar to how Etsy stacks its fees today. That's gone, Mercari simplified to a single flat 10% fee with nothing else added on top.

10% flat, on the item price only

Unlike Depop or eBay, Mercari's fee is calculated on the item sale price alone, not on shipping. If you charge the buyer separately for shipping, that portion isn't touched by the 10% fee, a genuine advantage over platforms that fee your shipping charge too.

Shipping labels are separate from the selling fee

If you ship the item yourself (Mercari calls this SOYO, "ship on your own"), there's no additional Mercari fee beyond the 10%. If you use a Mercari-provided prepaid label instead, the label cost is deducted from your payout, but this is a shipping cost, not a platform fee stacking on top of the 10%.

How Mercari compares

At 10% flat, Mercari sits between Depop's near-zero US fee and Poshmark's 20%. Against eBay's roughly 13.6% plus a per-order fee, Mercari is meaningfully cheaper on platform fees alone, on a $50 sale, eBay takes about $6.93 while Mercari takes $5.00.
